By Parul Bahl, Nutritionist

Every year The OM Foundation organizes events on National Nutrition week for its students of OM Pathshala and other underprivileged children of sewa basti.

This year the theme for National Nutrition Week 2024 is “Nutritious Diets for Everyone”. It echoes the sustainable development goals set by the United Nations. There’s a keen emphasis on promoting diets that fulfill the nutritional needs of individuals at various stages of life especially children.

The theme for National Nutrition Week 2024 in India is “Feeding Smart Right From Start.” This theme underscores the importance of teaching young children about nutrition at early age. It also emphasizes the role of parents, educators, and communities in guiding children to make healthy nutritional choices from the start.

In this context The OM Foundation has set up interesting and interactive activities for the children everyday from 1st September to 7th September. Through these informative activities they will learn about the importance of nutrition in their diet. They will learn good food habits also.

On first day Tanish Chhabra held a session on Food Sorting where children had to recognize which fruit or vegetable was in front of them. Later Tanish explained them about every food item and why they should eat it and how it helps them in growing healthy, happily and smartly. Food is not only for feeding appetite and strong bones but a source of healthy mind too which enhances their learning power. It is very important to teach underprivileged children how to select those nutritive fruits and vegetables which are less in cost and their parents can afford.

Through community engagement and local initiatives, the National Nutrition Week fosters a culture of healthy eating habits and collective action towards better nutrition.
